I spent quite a bit of time in Caer as a base to do some of the admin stuff that needed doing while back in UK. The park up in Eccleston was one of a couple of favoured places, the others being Duke's Drive (not photogenic and Garden lane car park, ditto). I wandered up the River Dee for about an hour and still hadn't reached the halfway point of the boudary of Hugh Grosvenor's back garden. Eccleston park up has developed a buzzing community of people who are out to enjoy life, fishermen, dog walkers, paddle boarders and wild swimmers all getting along just fine and dandy.
This is the river that I spent almost all of my rowing days, the exceptions being race days away. Rowing is, in my opinion, one of the greatest examples of teamwork, everyone has to do the same thing at the same time with one single objective. No stand out personalities to carry the team, everyone together and there's no better feeling in the world than listening to the sound of blade in gate in perfect time as the boat sits pefectly.
I have spent a significant part of my life in Caer, it's a city I know well. I guess that like most cities there is good and bad, surprisingly I'm more than happy with the old Quicks' building as there's always space for god brutalism (I felt the same about the old Police HQ), I'm less happy with the new food hall that replaced the market and the strange things that the council seem to allow on Pepper Street. But cities change.
A trip across england to catch up with a mate I wasn't able to see before leaving for Morocco, another part of the country that I visited in my schooldays as a group of us with geography teacher Gareth Hewitt walked a section of the Pennine Way. The final day being the Royal wedding but Mr Hewitt put the test match on the radio. I still haven't seen any more than a couple of photos of that wedding. Thank you Mr Hewitt.
Sitting around doing nothing is never going to inspire me and as part of the cheapskate tourist side of my life, I really don't like paying for things that should be free. I think this was mentioned in Morocco where, as a Caer resident, I refused to pay to see Roman remains in Volubilis especially since driving through Moulay Idriss gets a free view of an aquaduct. I had spoken to a chap at Oulton Park who mentioned motocross event and I thought I'd pop along with the camera, it turned out to be a particularly interesting day and obviously a new challenge from the photography side.
