La Vuelta '23

There was a plan to head back to France in order to watch Le Tour come through Tourmalet. Unfortunately this did not come to fruition as life got in the way, but I noticed that La Vuelta was passing through. This became an objective and a date I wasn't going to miss.

It turned out to be a spectacular day, full of atmosphere. I set up the computer so that we could watch the full stage, friends were made, beers were drunk and kudos was given as one of the team cars called my name for a quick chat, I was surprised too. Memories.

As I was heading over to see a friend in Gijón, it was apparent that I could slip in a couple of other stages on the way. A lovely drive from Tourmalet to Puerto de Lizarraga and a more subdued stage.

The realisation that although Col du Tourmalet is an epic stage, it's not an epic La Vuelta stage. Time to move on to an epic La Vuelta stage and off to Alto de L'Angliru it was. The weather was turning and it was chilly and wet. The crowds streamed up the mountain all day, but the cloud was low and so it appeared the mood. I had my spot for the photos and was ready, a very different vibe from Col du Tourmalet. Three very different stages, three very enjoyable stages.
